Ethiopia - Sidamo Bona "Grade 1" - Washed Arabica - Espresso
Straight out of the Bensa region in Ethiopia’s Sidamo zone, grown high up at 1800–2100 meters above sea level, the perfect conditions for quality beans.
The cherries are brought to the Bona washing station, located in the village of Bona, by about 400 nearby smallholder farmers, each working plots less than 2 hectares.
Surrounded by lush semi-forest and garden-style farms, the rich red soil adds depth to the flavour profile.
The main coffee varieties here are Welisho and Dega. Cherries are carefully handpicked and sorted before heading into an Agaarde disc pulper, which removes the skin and pulp.
After that, the coffee goes through a 72-hour wet fermentation, followed by washing and density grading in channels to select only the best beans.
The final step is a 6 hour soak in clean water.
Thanks to this detailed process and strong collaboration between Bona and the farmers, the coffee captures the complex, vibrant flavours that make Ethiopian beans so special.
