blackcurrant Brown Sugar Grapefruit Nougat strawberry

Muhathi Estate is a five-hectare family farm in Kiambu County, Kenya, owned by Peris Wambui Karugondo and managed alongside her son, Sam.

After 22 years working as a nurse in the UK, Peris returned home to care for her mother and continue her family’s coffee legacy.

The land was originally planted by her grandparents in the 1960s, following land reforms that enabled Kenyan families to establish and farm their own coffee. Today, Peris and her siblings each manage their own neighbouring shambas, sharing a wet mill built by their father in the 1980s.

The community plays a vital role: during harvest, up to 50 local workers hand-pick only ripe cherries and help maintain the beautifully kept farm. The estate grows SL28, SL34 and Batian, thriving in the region’s red volcanic soils and cool climate. Muhathi’s coffees are known for bright, refined flavours - pomelo, yellow nectarine, blackcurrant and panela-like sweetness.

Tasting Notes: Juicy and layered with notes of grapefruit, blackcurrant, strawberry, brown sugar, and nougat.
