San Agustin Guatemala Espresso

Cascara Dark Chocolate Mandarin acidity

San Agustīn is located on the eastern slopes of the Antigua Valley was originally part of a very old and well-known farm, Finca Cabrejo. After having to suffer from frost and a plummeting C-price, the owners made a long-term deal with fourth generation farmer Ricardo Zelaya who was a very successful producer in the region. He quickly began renovating the four-hectare plantation and has since expanded by another twenty one new hectares.

The Zelaya family have grown coffee for over 100 years and are one of only a handful of genuine ‘Antigua’ coffees bounded by volcanoes, Agua, Acatenango and Fuego. Fourth generation farmer Ricardo has managed the farm since 1988 and has won several Cup of Excellence awards during this time. The coffee plants are shade grown which protects them from direct sunlight and maintains soil health. He also uses pulp from the mills as an organic fertilizer. Many of the staff at the farm have worked there for decades who Richardo supports with various social initiatives for them and their families.
