Ubwizabwikawa Burundi Filter
This coffee comes from the Ubwizabwikawa (meaning the beauty of coffee) Cooperative in the Kayanza region. This co-op was recently built in proximity to the producers with the aim to reduce the long distances they had to walk to process their coffee. It also provides the farmers with direct-to-market access, and increases their revenue so that they can improve their livelihood. Of the 1800 members who supply their coffee to the cooperative, 623 are women. In 2013, the cooperative was fair-trade certified. This coffee is a washed bourbon. It was depulped the same day it was harvested, fermented underwater for 12-24 hours, and then washed for 2 hours before being placed on raised beds for drying.
