Burundi Masha Kayanza - Espresso
This rare honey-processed microlot comes from Masha Washing Station in Gatara, Kayanza — a highland region famed for vibrant coffees and rich cultural heritage. Sourced from over 3,200 smallholder farmers, each with an average of just 297 trees, this lot reflects a collective commitment to quality.
At 1,672 MASL, ripe Bourbon cherries are pulped and dried on raised beds, yielding a juicy cup with deep chocolate and plum notes, a twist of black pepper, and a lingering liquorice finish.
Masha shares its name with the local sub-hill, known more for cattle than coffee — “Masha” comes from the Kirundi word amasho, meaning herds. The community’s spirit, resilience, and abundance shine through this cup, despite past conflict and hardship. Honey processing is still rare in Burundi, but Masha’s take delivers a beautifully expressive profile that stands out with sweet depth and lively structure.
